Shop System™

Shop System™

Unmatched productivity

Shop System™ is designed to effortlessly amplify your shop’s throughput. Dramatically increase capacity without adding headcount or overtime.

Superior print quality

Produce fully dense, customer-ready parts with surface finish and resolution that outperform laser-based systems.

Easy to use and operate

Built for the modern machine shop—deliver better parts than laser systems at a fraction of the cost.

Shop System™ brings high-quality binder jetting to machine shops in an entirely new market segment. Shops can now cost-effectively print small, end-use metal parts with unmatched speed and productivity.

Process

Printing

Each layer spreads metal powder across the build bed and precisely jets binder to bond loose powder and define part geometry. Layer by layer, metal powder and binder fill the build volume with fused parts and surrounding loose powder.

Depowdering

After a build completes, the build box moves to a powder station for bulk and fine depowdering with a manual air pick. Loose powder is removed from parts and recovered through an integrated recycling system with powder sieving.

Sintering

Depowdered parts are loaded on trays into a high-performance, shop-safe batch sintering furnace. With external gas hookups, temperatures up to 1400 °C, and support for high-strength binders, the Shop System™ furnace delivers reliable, quality sintering in an easy-to-buy format.

Equipment

Printer

Printer

The Shop System™ printer features the market’s most advanced printhead—more than 70,000 nozzles jetting 1.2 pL droplets at nearly 10 kHz for high-resolution 3D printed parts at a fraction of laser-system cost.

Specifications

Drying oven

Drying oven

After printing, the build box with green parts enters a curing oven. Curing is a thermal process that adds strength to green parts before depowdering.

Specifications

Powder station

Powder station

With easy-access viewports, a manual air pick, integrated sieving and powder recycling, and a vacuum port for powder maintenance, the station provides closed-loop powder management and recycling.

Specifications

Furnace

Furnace

The Shop System™ furnace is a high-temperature, shop-safe sintering furnace built for cost-effective, high-throughput 3D printed parts. External gas connections and adjustable shelving scale smoothly into mid-volume production.

Specifications

Materials

The system supports powders from traditional powder metallurgy processes—including stainless steels, tool steels, and superalloys. Get started quickly with a turnkey solution. Shop System™ includes Desktop Metal™ engineering powders and processing parameters tuned for exceptional part quality and part-to-part repeatability.

Use cases

Dramatically boost shop output with Shop System™ flexibility and speed. Print hundreds of parts per shift and iterate designs at the push of a button. Use the full build volume for one geometry or nest multiple part designs in a single print setup.

01

Mixed-volume production of individual units

Produce multiple part geometries simultaneously without separate machining setups for each.

02

Batch production in the tens of units per day

Cost-effectively run low-volume batches of complex parts by eliminating dedicated tooling and one-off machining prep.

03

Mid-volume production in the hundreds of parts per day

Produce hundreds of near-net parts daily with sharply lower labor cost and greater geometric flexibility.
