Description

Caracol chose to develop its LFAM system with robotic arms as the motion platform to leverage their flexibility, including 6-axis motion. That makes it easier to print highly complex geometries that may require non-planar toolpaths and unconventional cuts—for example, 45° printing to create hollow structures.

Robotic arms are straightforward from a logistics standpoint and can be transported and set up within existing production spaces without building additional structural elements.

Today, Caracol works with a range of KUKA robot models, mostly from the Quantec line. The selected robot defines the potential size of applications built with the system. A seventh axis—a track—can also be added to extend reach up to about 15 m.
